What a race this year’s Daytona 500 was! Despite being rained out for six hours, my dad and I really enjoyed the racing when they got back to it. Though I would have loved to see Denny Hamlin sweep Speedweeks, I’m glad to see Dale Jr. win again.
Daytona is my absolute favorite track. From the history to the location to the racing itself, I’ve never had a bad time. I can’t get enough of restrictor plate racing, so Daytona and Talladega are my two favorites. They’re just so much more compelling to me than an intermediate where the racing gets so spread out you can’t tell who’s leading (I’m looking at you, Pocono).
That sky should have been enough to warn us that a storm was coming, but nope, we were in the stands when it started raining. When we heard thunder, we booked it back to our car, but not before getting completely soaked.
Here are some of my favorite pictures of the weekend. I’ve got to say, I’m super proud of my Earnhardt photo. Loved that man.
